Paul Blok vertrekt bij DDB Unlimited: 'Finally gone'

03-01-2023 (18:46) - Bureaus

"After 50 years in advertising of which 46 with one agency and the same boss (Pietro), since yesterday I am officially without work.

I joined Result as an Account Executive in 1976 in a team of app. 15 employees. In 1980 we merged with Masius and I was promoted to Deputy Managing Director. In 1984 we gained the McDonald’s account. This client was the reason for our Management Buy-out in 1989, leading to 8 very successful years as the largest independent agency in The Netherlands.

McDonald’s was the reason we joined DDB in 1997. For 10 years DDB’s Herberth Samsom, Pietro and myself formed an excellent team together with top creatives, strategists and a staff of talented, hardworking people. We have been leading the list of agencies for many years and made many clients happy for a long time. We became the most awarded Effie agency, gained numerous Lions, Lamps and other awards.

During the time agencies like Eigen Fabrikaat, Databay, RAPP, Etcetera, Tribal, Red Urban became part of our Group. Personally I was one of the founders of OMD (now OMG).

Our management and I have always been contributing more than our fair share to the advertising business, such as board memberships in VEA (now VIA), active roles in Reclame Code Commissie, Effie committees etcetera.

The last few years I have been a sparring partner and coach for local and European managers in their jobs.

I must say I am proud of what I accomplished during all those years and I feel a little sad to be out of a job now. On the other hand, now that the leadership is UNEXPECTEDLY handed over to 180 and TBWA, it is good I will be no part of that."
